How the calculation works

Plywood calculation by area or rectangular parts

Area mode divides total required area, including layers and reserve, by sheet area. Part mode checks both orthogonal orientations on a sheet and calculates the number of rectangular parts that fit.

Example

If a 500 × 300 mm part fits 10 times on a 1500 × 1000 mm sheet, 20 parts without reserve require 2 sheets.

Questions and answers

Is this a full nesting optimizer for arbitrary shapes?

No. Rectangular parts use a practical two-orientation grid estimate; complex optimal nesting requires a dedicated nesting algorithm.

How are layers and reserve handled?

Required parts or area are first multiplied by the number of layers and then increased by the selected reserve percentage.
